Mr. Ali in Bukittinggi!

What do you do for work?:

"I am a religious teacher, and I teach interpretation of the Koran. In Arabic, interpreters of the Koran are called Tafsir. When I was younger, I didn't think I would become a teacher. I was more interested in being a judge, but it was something about taking care of my cousins as a college student that made me want to work where I can teach and motivate. Even so, I still graduated from college as someone who wanted to practice law.  But as fate would have it, a long time ago, the Ministry of Education said that they needed my knowledge of the Koran and asked if I would be willing to serve as a teacher. That was 18 years ago, and I haven't looked back since.

My wish for my students is that they are happy in their lives. I am especially happy when my students catch on to my lesson, my attitude in the classroom, and the motivation I impart to them."

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

"Hello, students from the U.S.. I wanted to say that although you are from a different country, I see you as my students, too! Be diligent in your studies, and always keep an open mind. Hopefully we will meet one day, too, whether that be in the U.S., or in Indonesia!"
