Alexandra's Taste of Galicia

These small green peppers are a popular Galician dish and come with a fun surprise: some peppers are spicy, while some are not!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Trying all of these foods has been a fun way to experience Galician culture. I liked the flavor of all of the seafood dishes I tried, but I didn’t like the texture of the octopus (pulpo) because I could feel the tentacles on my tongue. I am not a big fan yet, but hopefully I can grow to like it the more I try it!

I have really enjoyed the meat dishes. They are all so delicious, and I already cannot wait to order them again at the next restaurants I go to! I especially like the ham croquettes (croquetas de jamón). They have quickly become one of my favorite appetizers. Because I love to cook, I plan to try making them from scratch.

Of all of the foods I have tried thus far, Padrón peppers (pimientos de Padrón) are my favorite. I already love peppers and spicy foods, so I was excited to try them. Eating them is also like playing a guessing game because you never know which pepper will be spicy. Sometimes I get lucky and find more than one spicy pepper in my order!

How is the food prepared?:

Octopus (pulpo) can be prepared in several different ways. One preparation is pulpo a la plancha. This is when the octopus is cooked on a very hot surface until the outside becomes crispy. Another common preparation is pulpo á feira, where the octopus is boiled until soft and tender and then drizzled with olive oil, salt, and smoked paprika (pimentón).
