Traveler Bio

¡Buenas! (Hello!) My name is Alexandra, but you can call me Alex or Alé (the Spanish version of Ally, as I am frequently called here in Spain)! I am so happy you’re here! I am 23 years old and call Philadelphia, Pennsylvania my home. Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I have always loved sports, especially watching my favorite teams, the Philadelphia Phillies (professional baseball) and the Eagles (professional football). I love any activity outdoors, especially hiking, running, watching sunsets, and playing team sports, especially lacrosse, soccer, and field hockey. I love skiing in the Pocono Mountains in the winter and heading to the Jersey shore in the summer to relax and play games on the beach. I also love reading, and I love a good art project, especially watercoloring or crocheting.

For college, I left Pennsylvania and headed to South Carolina to study science at Clemson University. I love to learn and help others, and that has motivated me to want to be a doctor one day. I don’t want a language barrier to be a reason that I am unable to help and treat a patient, so I have a goal to learn Spanish.

Eager to share my love for learning with other students and eager to improve my Spanish language skills, I joined ClemsonHope, an organization that allowed me to be a mentor for Spanish speaking students and meet the best teacher EVER, Mrs. Durham! I wanted to continue my teaching and mentoring efforts after college, and I still felt that I had more Spanish to learn, so I applied for a U.S. Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Grant and was fortunate to receive the award to teach English in the region of Galicia, Spain. I am currently living in the town of Ourense, where I am working with secondary school students (similar to middle school and high school students within the U.S. school system) and exploring Spain and other countries in Europe. Together, we are all starting new journeys, and I am so excited to share my adventures and experiences with you this year and cannot wait to hear about your journeys through this school year! ¡Hablamos pronto! (Talk soon!)
