Hi, I'm James Alex Porter, or just Alex for short. I am 25 years old and a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, where I earned my Master's degree in German. While there, I focused my studies on the writings of Franz Kafka and the culture of the German Weimar Republic. Since graduating, I have spent the summer back in my hometown of Lexington, South Carolina, where I love to meet old friends, read, and shop at the farmer's market. Sadly, I am leaving my cat and best friend Hugo in the care of a close friend as I travel to Germany.
I will spend the next year teaching English in the small town of Landau. While I am there, I want to explore the potential of board games as teaching tools for language learners. I want to sit down with a group of students and play tabletop games that require skill and creativity with language. My hope is that these games can provide a unique learning environment where learning a new language is fun and engaging. I'm so glad you'll be joining me for these experiences.
