Spain has incredibly diverse and wonderful gfood. From meat to fruit, Spain has it all. I'm going to share two of my all-time favorite dishes, so that you can have a little taste of what Spanish food entails.
The two favorite foods that I have tried here are paella and tortilla española. Paella is the most stereotypically Spanish meal. It is a rice and seafood dish with a very rich flavor. La tortilla is also delicious, but is probably not what you're envisioning. This dish is not used for tacos or quesadillas. It is a potato, cheese and egg dish that is shaped like a cake.
When I first tried the paella I was a little nervous because restaurants here don't peel the seafood. Hence, the shrimp came out with eyes and legs. Although this was difficult for me to handle, I just peeled off the shell and ate it normally. That experience was interesting because it really made me appreciate where my food came from. Instead of just getting peeled shrimp from a store, I knew that this was an animal caught from the ocean. The tortilla was less nerve-wracking. I loved it from the first bite and now I'm always excited when my host mom puts it on the table.
