This week I also traveled to Latvia to see a friend. Latvia is one of the Baltic countries because it borders the Baltic Sea. It is a very poor country because it struggled to gain complete independence and economic stability after World War I. Despite enduring a difficult history, Latvia's culture is thriving and they just celebrated their 100th year of independence.
