This was hard for me to adjust to at first, but with time, it got easier. The later lunch time also allows children to come home after school to eat lunch with their families.
This tradition is related to the environment because it is caused by time zone differences. While Spain is further west than most other countries in Europe, it shares the same time zone as the rest of Continental Europe. This schedule means that they eat before work and late in the evening, so it is dark outside during most meals. The meals themselves are connected to the environment because in Spain, people are conscious of where their food comes from. They very rarely eat processed or pre-packed foods for a meal. Their meat, fruit and breads all come from local shops.
