Burning Away the Bad

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

This holiday is a celebration of the people, and its occurence depends exclusively on the will of the people of the neighbourhood. Many years ago, the tradition was developed by settlers from Spain who came to the port of Valparaíso. This tradition is generally practiced to celebrate the change of seasons and the finishing of Holy Week. The tradition is connected to Valparaíso's environment in the sense that the port being right along Valparaíso's coast allowed many settlers to settle in Valparaíso, and without the settlers, the tradition would not have been formed.
