On Friday, I got the chance to go to a local Kindergarten and talk about the US with some local kiddos! I taught them about fried pickles- which they thought were hilarious, the Statue of Liberty, and Rocky Mountain National Park. We then played Bingo where they learned the names of animals in English. I haven’t yet had a chance to work with kiddos here yet, and I forgot how much fun it can be! The school was kind, and the kids were so eager to learn about my life. I think sometimes we forget how exciting the world can be as adults, and how fun exploration is through the lens of someone different than us!
Fun fact about me: I read a LOT -- and quickly. It is one of my favorite pastimes. This week, I read a book called "Gideon the Ninth" and various short stories for my literature class. I also started a new series called "Scythe," but am always looking for more good books. Please recommend some of your favorites!
Pop Quiz! What was the word of the Week? (It’s okay. I don’t actually expect you to remember~)
Iaido! Iaido is the Japanese martial art of Katana forms that I have been learning at AIU (not like you’ve all been asking me about this or anything). It is actually one of the original forms used in the Japanese army. Iaido has now become a focus of mind and body in graceful sword wielding. And while fun, oh boy is it challenging! My legs always hurt, but I suppose that just means I’m getting stronger.
