Hello! My name is Allie Kavalauskas, and I am eighteen years old. I am from Augusta, Kansas, but I was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I lived there for six years before moving with my parents and two younger sisters to Kansas. Growing up in Kansas, I thankfully did not encounter many tornadoes. I did spend a lot of time with horses. I love animals, especially dogs and horses. I love traveling just as much as animals, and I always look for ways to incorporate animals into my travels! I also enjoy reading and baking. My favorite recipe to make is chocolate chip cookies; a recipe I have memorized!
I currently am a sophomore at Colgate University. Colgate is a small university located in the village of Hamilton, New York about five hours from New York City. I study international relations and Spanish at Colgate. I write for the Colgate newspaper, volunteer with a youth mentorship program, and am on the equestrian team.
I did not get to travel much before college, so studying Spanish was a way I connected to another culture.I began studying Spanish when I was in seventh grade, and I have not stopped! The majority of my Spanish teachers have been from Spain, and they have coincidentally been my favorite teachers. I learned about Spanish culture and language from them, which is what motivated me to take my study of Spanish to the next level by spending a semester in Spain!
I am currently studying in Madrid, but I spent the summer preparing for my semester abroad by living with a host family in a small Spanish town. I took care of the two kids in the family and taught them English while improving my Spanish and learning about Spanish culture from them. The family even had horses!
I am excited to continue exploring Madrid, different parts of Spain, and new countries around Spain. I cannot wait for the adventures ahead! I am so happy to have you following my journey and look forward to getting to know you all!
