I traveled from a village called Lotopa to Le Valasi’s Beach Fales, which is roughly a 40-minute drive from where I live in Samoa. A beach fale is a simple thatched hut.
In total, I have traveled from the United States to Hawaii to Samoa to Fiji to Savai'i and back to the main island of Upolu in Samoa. That is quite a lot of traveling! Over 8,000 miles, phew!
I traveled by car this week. I rode in special taxis arranged by my academic program.
The most interesting place I visited this week was the To-Sua Ocean Trench. If you keep swimming down the trench you find yourself in a vast, open cave with lush vegetation. It was a beautiful place.
The only way to get from Independent Samoa (the island where I am at right now) to American Samoa (an island of Samoa that is considered an American territory) is on a small jet plane. However, I will not be visiting American Samoa during my time in the country.
