Chicken Milanesa: National Argentinian Dish

Introduction:

With an hour-long break between my classes, I decided to try an authentic Argentinian dish for lunch, as I had just finished my class on Food and Culture in Argentina. Minutes after leaving the university, I stumbled across a very lively restaurant. I headed inside, and as I sat down, I instantly searched the menu for the word Milanesa.

What food did I try?:

There are many variations of dishes that include milanesa, but the one that stood out to me the most was the milanesa a la caballo. Perched on top of a perfectly golden, crispy chicken cutlet was a fried egg, with a fresh side of salad.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

When I first received my plate, I was surprised by the simplicity of the meal. Nonetheless, I didn't want its appearance to discourage me, so I began cutting right into the milanesa. In all honesty, when I had the first bite of milanesa, I was a bit surprised. Coming from home, I find bold seasonings and flavors in many of the foods I eat. However, in Argentina, their meals, such as the milanesa, rely on the simplicity of their natural flavors to do the talking.
