Traveler Bio

Ahalan Wa Sahalan (Greetings) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE)! My name is Angel, and I am currently in the UAE conducting research as a Fulbright Program grantee. I am originally from Denver, Colorado. As a child, I loved looking out my window at the Rocky Mountains. Can you find Denver on a map?

I completed my Bachelor of Arts in political science and international relations at Colorado State University (CSU). I also began my Arabic language journey at CSU. During my undergraduate career, my research focused on the water access issues in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the role of women in peace-making efforts (also in the MENA region). After graduating from CSU, I worked in public health in Virginia and Colorado.

In 2020, I started my Master of Global Affairs program at Rice University in Houston, Texas. My graduate studies broadly focused on climate policy and innovation in the Arab Gulf. More specifically, my expertise is in climate statecraft. As a climate researcher, this year is the perfect time for me to be in the UAE, as the country is hosting COP28 this year. I hope to take you all along on my Fulbright journey and share with you climate action happening in the UAE (and the Gulf broadly) as well as Emirati culture. Join me!
