Traveler Bio

My name is Ann Laurie Pierre, and I am a proud Haitian woman from Boston, Massachusetts, a Graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Growing up in a Haitian household taught me the importance of community, perseverance, and cultural pride. From a young age, I learned to embrace diversity and the value of using education as a tool to empower others.

Boston was where my journey began, where I first developed my love for learning, languages, and helping others. Later, moving to Washington, D.C. to attend Howard University, one of the nation’s most prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), shaped me into the woman I am today. At Howard, I have been surrounded by brilliant, motivated students and faculty who inspire me daily to lead with purpose and heart. My experiences have strengthened my belief in the power of service, mentorship, and cross-cultural exchange.

Beyond academics, I serve as a Fellow for an international nonprofit that teaches young girls in Ghana, Kenya, Haiti, Chile, Canada, and the United States about their health. I’ve also led Howard University students in mentorship programs at local D.C. schools, helping young learners grow academically and personally. My passion for education and global connection inspired me to join the Teach the World program, where I hope to bring students into my journey abroad in France.

Living and teaching in France thus far has been an incredible experience, one that has challenged me to grow, adapt, and see the world through new eyes. As a Haitian-American woman in Paris, I’m reminded daily of how culture shapes who we are and how we connect with others. I’ve loved immersing myself in the French language, exploring historic landmarks, and learning from people with stories very different from my own.

Through this program, I hope to inspire students to dream beyond borders, to know that they, too, can learn from the world and make an impact wherever they go. My journey is one of resilience, curiosity, and compassion, and I am honored to share it with classrooms around the globe.
