Madrid's Variety of Food

If you love all kinds of foods, this would be a perfect city for you! It is no surprise why Spanish people take pride in their food.

What food did I try?:

I want to focus specifically on a brunch I had at a café called Pan & Coffee (Bread & Coffee). While I was there, I tried one of their signature chocolate milkshakes and a traditional pretzel-like pastry with chocolate and nuts. Yum!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

When I am home, I enjoy drinking milkshakes and eating pastries. During this past month in Madrid, I have bought pastries for breakfast, but I had not had a milkshake since I arrived until going out for brunch.  I felt so happy when I tried the food! The chocolate milkshake had the perfect blend of milk and ice cream. The pastry was so delicious. It was soft but had sweet nuts on the top that gave it some crunch. I felt so cheerful while eating something that reminded me of home.

How is the food prepared?:

The milkshake was prepared right in front of me! I had the chance to see how the barista mixed all the ingredients together. From my understanding, the pastries that the café sells are made early in the morning each day on the premises!

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Food and the local environment are interconnected. The European Union enforces food regulations stipulating that all food needs to be sold fresh and locally sourced. However, that does not mean that the food in Madrid is only from Spain. There is food from all over the world!
