To get from Moscow to Kazan, I traveled over 500 miles. That's about the distance from New York City to Detroit. I took an overnight train and it took about 12 hours.
If you add up the distances between Moscow >> Kazan >> Ekaterinburg >> Moscow >> St. Petersburg >> Ekaterinburg, it's over 3,000 miles! That's longer than the distance from New York City to San Francisco.
In Kazan, I took the bus and a taxi.
Since I haven't visited in three years, my favorite place in Kazan was my host family's house. They live in a house that's built like a log cabin and is made of wood. I have a lot of warm memories from living here, so returning feels like going home!
I also visited the Kazan Kremlin. This is the original city's fortress from before it become part of the Russian Empire. This happened about 500 years ago. While the Kremlin has been rebuilt since then, you can feel all the history inside its walls!
