Nika: The Life of a German Kid

Introduction:

I spoke with Nika, a student in the 5th class in Germany (that's about equivalent to 5th grade). She recently turned 11 (most of the students in class 5 are 10 or 11 years old). Nika is in one of my English classes and is a star student because she spends lots of time practicing English outside of school with her sister and watching English videos on YouTube. She is really fun-spirited and was eager to talk about her life.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast, Nika usually eats Brötchen (bread rolls) with sausage. For lunch, she enjoys pasta and rice or whatever is around. She is not a picky eater at all. She said she doesn't usually eat dinner, but sometimes has something small.

What is your house like?:

The walls in Nika's apartment are mostly white and green because her mother really likes those colors. There are lots of apartment plants by the windows, giving it a very lively feel. The apartment has two bedrooms: one for Nika and her sister and one for her parents. There is also a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom with a combined shower and bath.

What chores do you have at home?:

While Nika doesn't have any official chores other than cleaning her room, she likes helping her mom with cooking and whatever else needs to be done.
