Welcome to my Journey in Senegal!

I loved my time abroad and knew that I wanted to return and share my love for education with global communities. This led me to apply for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA). The Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship sends young adults to over 200 countries to help teach English and share about American culture.

In Senegal, I work at an American Corner in a culture center. An American Corner is a place that is run by the United States Embassy as a way to provide resources and share American culture within communities. In Senegal there are 4 American Corners and they are located in Dakar (the capital), Saint-Louis, Ziguinchor, and Thies!

I am abroad to help teach English in Thies, mostly to adults. I get to create my own lessons and teach about America every Tuesday and Thursday evening. During the rest of the week I teach a kids club where we do intorductory English lessons, conversation club to discuss recent events in the world, a book club, and fun Fridays. Fun Fridays are my favorite because we get to do different activites like watch movies, trivia, game night, dance parties, crafts, and karaoke!

I have been in Senegal since September of 2024, and so far I am loving my time abroad. I have had the opportunity to visit new cities, try new foods, meet new people, and learn new languages. My favorite part so far has been living with my roommate Noa. She was an English teacher in Thies last year and returned for a second year. We get along very well and she has helped me to become an even better teacher.

I can't wait to keep sharing my adventures in Senegal with you!
