There are many differences between Ireland and the United States in terms of religion, politics and racial dynamics.
I am taking an online class named "Politics of Racism" which will expose me to how race is perceived in Ireland. It will be an interesting experience because Ireland is not very diverse, so I am sure this course will expose me to the different perspectives that Irish people have!
The influence of the Catholic church here is huge. I learned that the Church made school mandatory in Ireland so they would be able to influence its youth!
Then, of course, politics will always lead to different perspectives; everyone cannot agree, all of the time. Politics are a huge part of Ireland because Ireland is separated; there is the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Since I will be studying the Catholic church, racism and politics in my classes here, I know that I will run into people who have a different perspective than mine. However, I just need to keep an open mind and not take anything personally and I should be fine.
