First Time Making Empanadas: Uruguay-Style!

Introduction:

My mom always cooked empanadas with cheese filling for breakfast when I was a child. The dough for Mexican empanadas is made with corn, and they are fried. However, in Uruguay, empanadas are prepared differently. So, I tried making my own batch for the first time.

What food did I try?:

Empanadas are a common meal in Latin America and other parts of the world. You can easily buy them in most restaurantes (restaurants) for a cheap price. An empanada is a pastry stuffed with meat, vegetables, cheese or even sweet ingredients like fruits. It is similar to a hot pocket, but it is in the shape of a semicircle. In Uruguay, traditional empanadas are filled with beef, egg, bell pepper and onion. The crust, which is flour-based, has a beautiful light golden color.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

At first, I was not sure what to expect. This was my first time making empanadas from scratch. When I took a bite, I was surprised at how crunchy the crust was. On the other hand, the filling was super soft and chewy. They were incredibly deliciosas (delicious) and took only an hour to make from start to finish. I got excited thinking about other fillings I could try.
