After that, I ride the metro for 30 to 70 minutes, depending on where I want to go in the city. This is a lot of time spent commuting. People who live in distant suburbs and commute to work in the city center can easily spend four hours of their day on public transportation.
Two words: electric scooters. If families living in the suburbs do not own a car, they probably own an electric scooter. These scooters make it much faster to travel the long blocks and wide roads which make up the suburbs, cutting the commute to the metro station in half. They are also better for the environment because they run off of rechargeable batteries instead of gasoline. On another note, since many universities, hospitals, offices, schools and shops are also opening up in the suburbs, people who are looking for work can also choose to work closer to home instead of going all the way into the city.
