Ireland: More Than Just Green Fields and Leprechauns

Since the United Kingdom (U.K.) was Protestant, and formerly ruled Ireland, Northern Ireland decided to join the U.K. Through classes and travel, I learned about the complicated and intense history between Ireland and the U.K.

My perspective on Ireland has shifted as I better understand its culture and history. I appreciate the differences that exist between my life in Ireland and my life in the United States as they demonstrate how unique each culture is. Nations cannot be defined by stereotypes or simple judgements. Ireland has a rich history that has shaped its culture and development and I now better appreciate Ireland as a country in the world.
