A Breathtaking World of Taste: Japanese Food!

Introduction:

Hey everyone!

Nice to meet you all! I'm Tan Nguyen. Throughout the next couple of weeks, I'll be taking you with me as I study abroad in Japan, exploring its cool, interesting, and maybe even weird qualities that you haven't seen before. However, the most I'll spoil you for today is a topic we all know and love: food! We'll be going over a new dish I've tried in Japan, how it tasted, what I thought about it, and its background. Let's get to it!

What food did I try?:

I will always leave it to Japan to surprise me because I did not think this dish existed: matcha ice cream! I love sweets and I can devour almost anything. However, when the waiter gave me a green ball of ice cream, I was a bit surprised.

'What was this? I've seen mint ice cream but it's not exactly the same...' I thought.

Matcha ice cream is an ice cream that has been flavored with matcha. Don't worry, I'll go on to explain what matcha is later. For now, just think of it as a green herb used in sweets and drinks. While typically served as a desert, matcha ice cream is often served at the end of the meal. It's not uncommon to see ice cream toppings like granola or fruit. With all that said, expect to be ordering more than one matcha ice cream because this dish was delicious!

Bonus: Anko taikyaki! A popular Japanese snack in the form of a fish.
