你好! Nî hâo! Hi, there! My name is Brennan, but you can call me Bree. I was born in Iowa among the sprawling corn fields but moved to Texas when I was three years old, so you can pretty much call me a native. Yee-haw! Growing up in Dallas, Texas, I was able to explore many different exciting hobbies like ice skating, horseback riding, marching band, and tennis. After high school, I went to college in Abilene, Texas, a city in the middle of nowhere, to study Psychology at Abilene Christian University. I then went to the University of Oxford to get a master's degree in Social Anthropology. Abilene was very dry and dusty, but I made wonderful friendships that will last a lifetime. However, Oxford was very cold and icy, but I got to experience beautiful, famous libraries every day. Even though Abilene and Oxford were very different places in this world, I learned and experienced so much through them both.
Within a few years of working as a mental health professional, I helped people with mental health disorders transition from hospitals into stable lifestyles. Afterward, I applied for the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program and received an award to teach English to kids in Taiwan for one whole year. I teach at two different elementary schools with many indigenous children in the very south of Taiwan called Pingtung County. I can see the mountains on my lunch break! So far, I am diving head first into the rich, diverse culture of the Taiwanese island and its people.
I am thrilled to see what this year has in store for me and everything and everyone I encounter! Can not wait to share this experience with you. As they say in Taiwan, bye-bye!
