Interview with a Mongolian 6th grader

What jobs do your parents have?:

“My mom has a job where she creates an application like Amazon in Mongolia. I think my parents both do the same job.”

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

“School starts at 8:15am. Class ends at 2:15pm.”

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

“I usually just walk. Yes, I’m allowed to go to school by myself, I also take my eight year old little brother.”

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

“I eat lunch at the middle school cafeteria. My little brother eats at the primary school cafeteria. My favorite food is hamburgers, and my favorite Mongolian food is huushur.”

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

“To kids I speak in English, to the teachers I mostly use English. But for Mongolian language class, Mongolian script class, and literature class I speak Mongolian. Sometimes for math class I use English and Mongolian.”

“Hello in Mongolian is “sainbainuu."

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

“In my class, Erhembayar and Erhemjargal. In my little brother’s class Nomin-Erdene is the most common name.”
