Interview with a Mongolian 6th grader

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

“In school the subjects are science, math, Mongolian script, art, extracurricular class (you have to pick which one you would like), P.E., swimming, English language, and I will be starting Chinese language next year. My favorite subject is the extracurricular class, where I have recently been making bath bombs.

For my little brother, his favorite subject is art.”

What is your homework like?:

“It’s basically 1-2 hours. I have the most homework from math and Mongolian class. I have 10-20 math problems per day, and around 3 problems for my other subjects. I don’t have a lot of homework at home because I finish a lot of it during school.”

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

“I like to go home, watch TV, and then do homework. My favorite sport is football, and my favorite games are Roblox and Minecraft. I also like playing with shagai (traditional Mongolian game pieces made from the ankle bones of sheep and goats).”

Who is your favorite famous person?:

“My favorite famous person is Ronaldo.”

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

“I don’t really listen to music, I just listen to whatever is put on. I have pretty bad taste when it comes to music. The only music I know is Minecraft cave noises.

My little brother’s favorite is Disney’s Toy Story music.
