At the school's orientation, however, I got to hear the hymn for the school and the one written about their town. As a predominantly Catholic country (90% at last count), hymns are featured in a variety of formal gatherings.
The most fun activity was cooking with the other Fulbright teachers before we went to our final towns. We were taken to a large kitchen where they taught us to cook traditional Polish food and then we got to enjoy it all together! I helped make a vegetarian chicken tender with mushrooms, bread crumbs, salt and homemade mayonnaise.
This week, I was reading a book named The Body Keeps Score about how trauma can impact your brain chemistry, body and emotional health. I thought that it would be relevant to my role as a social worker. Next week, I hope to start on some more Polish stories, if I can find a bookstore with a larger English section.
I played a few card games in between orientation training with other Fulbrighters, but I did not have much time for sports as I was moving.
