Meet a Local Cambodian

I rent minivan if I need to get around. When I go to my farm, I take a minivan to Banlung and then I walk to the village. I live 45 km from the city.

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

Normal clothes, Khmer style. My tribe has long clothes made of loincloth. I only wear them for photographs. Even for celebrations, we wear Khmer clothes. (By "Khmer clothes," he means modern clothes)

What do you like to do in your free time?:

I like to sleep! Usually, I do not have free time. When I am finished with a tour guide, I work on my farm growing cashew nuts trees. I'm always working.

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

I speak Tampune Tompuen, my tribal language. I speak Krrung, a different tribal language. And Kavat, another tribal language. And Prob, another tribal language. Lun, another. I speak nine languages. Sorry! Oh, and Kacaock. And Khmer, the most popular language. I also speak Laos, my wife is Lao. She speaks three languages. Oh, and English. Languages are interesting. I learned languages from my mom. It’s important for my work, when I go to research and help tourists. I always wanted to be a guide and you need to know languages.

Do you have pets?:

I have one cat, two pigs, two dogs and five chickens. I do not have names for them, except the cat, who we call Meow because she goes “meow.”

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

I traveled to... I'm not sure. I’ve been to Loas, Vietnam and Cambodia. In Cambodia, I have been Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Kratchie, Stung Treng, Campote, and then I forgot. (Yok is always traveling for his work as a guide.
