Our Morning at the Market

After another 30 seconds, the snack was removed from the oil and put on a drying rack to cool a bit. When we bought ours, they put them in a tiny plastic bag for us.

We didn't see the making of the rice dough, but we learned the process. They start by harvesting rice, which is then turned into a powder by either pounding it in a mortar and pestle or smashing it between large cement blocks. The rice powder is then mixed with milk, sugar and sesame to make the rice dough.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Cambodia is an agricultural society. That means that many of the people are farmers and fishermen. Some of the biggest crops are rice, maize (corn), rubber, soybean, nuts, cotton and tobacco. You can go to the market and purchase your food directly from the farmer or fisherman who produced it!
