Have you heard about the Mekong River? Growing up, I always heard about this massive, important river in Southeast Asia. I was so excited to finally get to experience it for myself. Our expedition team traveled 30 miles down the Mekong River using inflatable pack rafts. We're going to be traveling along the river for another few days.
The Mekong River is special because it runs throughout Southeast Asia. It is the world's twelfth longest river. It runs through the countries of China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. There is a lot of history along the river. It has been used for trade between countries and remains important for trade today. I think that the Mekong River is most interesting because it is an extreme river, known for rapids, waterfalls, changing water levels and a lot of unique wildlife.
The river is a source of water for the people living in Southeast Asia. Villages, towns and even large cities develop along the Mekong. People use the river to collect water for cooking, drinking and farming. They also use the river to travel by boat.
