All About Eucalyptus: Exploring Australia's Most Iconic Trees

Regeneration of Eucalpytus trees can happen through "epicormic resprouting", when a burned tree grows a new bud out the side of its trunk, or through seeds that are released and activated by fires.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

While Eucalyptus trees are adapted to withstand droughts and fires, even these trees have a limit to their tolerance. In recent years, extreme weather events like droughts, fires, and floods have become more frequent and intense. This effect is a consequence of global climate change. These events harm Eucalyptus trees by placing them under severe stress, which in the worst case can cause a whole forest to die. Scientists like myself are working hard to understand exactly how Eucalyptus trees are being affected by such events so that we can protect these important species. At the same time, other researchers and advocates are working to reduce the impacts of climate change. How can you help to protect plants in your local ecosystems?
