Giving Thanks

When I am traveling, I learn a lot and have fun. I am especially thankful for the friends that I have made here in Ecuador, too!

My closest friend here is a medical student from Guatemala. Last weekend, we traveled together to Baños, a beautiful town in the mountains. Baños is famous for thermal baths, beautiful waterfalls, and extreme sports. The weekend left me feeling thankful for my friend, the adventures we shared, and the beauty of the nature around us.

Who is someone for whom you are thankful? Let them know! Share with them what exactly it is that you appreciate!

Traveling often makes me appreciate home even more. I greatly miss my family and friends, but I am able to stay in touch with them through the wonders of modern technology. Although I miss my family back in Boston this Thanksgiving, I am lucky to have an amazing host family here in Ecuador.

This Thanksgiving, I plan to travel to Quito to spend the holiday with my Fulbright friends. All of us are from the United States. We will be missing our families on this day. It will be wonderful to spend the day with this group of people. The Fulbright Commission is planning a special Thanksgiving lunch for us. I wonder if this will include typical Ecuadorian food, or if there will be a Thanksgiving twist. What do you typically eat on Thanksgiving?

It is important to remember that the history of Thanksgiving in the United States is complicated. However, it is nevertheless a great opportunity to think about and express for what you are thankful. One day of thanks is wonderful, but remembering to stay thankful every single day is even better!
