Hola a todos! Hi, everyone! My name is Casey Molina. I’m a 22-year-old recent college graduate from Virginia Tech, home of the Hokies! I studied journalism and international relations during my time as an undergrad and did my first study abroad in the Dominican Republic during my sophomore year of college. I also studied abroad for a semester in Switzerland and Ethiopia. Participating in study abroad allowed me to feed my love of learning about different cultures and languages and learn more about my Latin roots while practicing my Spanish. Whilst in the Dominican Republic, myself and a group of Virginia Tech students helped build bathrooms in the community, revive the community garden, and help teach technology classes to elementary school students.
I made the decision to apply for a Fulbright grant in the Canary Islands in order to pursue my interests in environmental sustainability and my love of working with children. I will be living on the littlest Canary Island called El Hierro. A fun fact about El Hierro is that it’s the first official island in the world to be completely sustained off of renewable energy! Que guay! How cool! During my Fulbright year I will be a bilingual education assistant teacher while working on a docu-series about climate change, sustainable energy practices in El Hierro and oceanic pollution. I‘m looking forward to meeting all of you and can’t wait to share my travels with you this year!
