While there are definitely many similarities between living in Germany and the U.S., it's fair to say that I've experienced my fair share of shocks and surprises while adjusting to living over here!

Before moving to Germany, I had only lived previously in Rockland and then for about three years in New York City, so I had always stayed pretty close to home. Therefore, while preparing to move to Germany, I braced myself for the inevitable discomfort that I expected to feel while living in an unfamilar country... and how right I turned out to be!

Some of the biggest differences I've observed so far about living in Germany are related to day to day activities such as recycling, public transport and eating!  I'll share some observations about each with you.

Recycling:

Germans take their recycling very seriously, to the extent that people would probably get quite annoyed if you did not recycle in the proper way. As opposed to the U.S. where we have options to recycle paper, plastics, glass and metal (and in some cases the composting of waste food), Germany uses a much more complex recylcing program that most people follow diligently.

Did you know that what we call trash in the U.S.
