Hi there! My name is Cassandra Bartels, and I am a Fulbright grantee currently studying at Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel! (Note the little dots on top of 'Universität'? That means the "a" is pronounced like an "ae"!) Here, I am working on studying how the Southern Ocean contributed to global climate change over the last 20,000 years! I use the chemistry of little shells to tell me about how warm, cold, young, or old the waters were!
I grew up in Palisades, New York, just up the Hudson River from New York City. I was in your same classroom many years ago, and am so excited to be visiting you and sharing my journey virtually! I graduated from TZ in 2019 and then went to Barnard College in New York City, where I studied earth sciences.
In my free time, I like to read, watch movies in German, run, and dance! I used to dance ballet, but now I dance Lindy Hop, which is a really cool sort of dance that emerged in the 1930s in New York. I cannot wait to hear about all the amazing things you are interested in.
I love local history and so will be sure to give you wonderful students all the most fun facts I learn about the places I visit! I have only been here for a month so far, but I have been having a great time getting to know the town and interacting with some other young German students.
I cannot wait to share my adventures with you all! Talk to you soon!
