Pulpo a la plancha

Introduction:

When I moved to Spain, I was so excited to try new foods! Living in a different country means living on different land. When I arrived, I learned that there are different fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood in Spain. One food I was surprised by was octopus, or pulpo!

What food did I try?:

Pulpo a la plancha is a meal that Spanish people eat for dinner. It is very popular in Galicia, which is the region I am living in. The seafood in this region is very fresh.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

To be honest, I was a little nervous to try pulpo! I wasn't used to seeing the tentacles and suckers (the suction cups) on a plate in front of me. However, I knew this meal is very special to Spain, so I knew I had to try it.

How is the food prepared?:

Pulpo a la plancha translates to "octopus on a hot grill". First, the pulpo is cooked on a hot grill. This makes it crispy on the outside. Then, you add spices, olive oil, and potatoes.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Galicia (my region in Spain), is connected to the ocean, so people in Galicia have a long history of fishing and eating seafood. The ocean has fresh fish, octopus, clams, and other seafood for people in Galicia to enjoy.
