The Unique Geography of Singapore

Introduction:

Many countries' histories are tied into their location, and Singapore is no different. Its geographical location contributed to both the formation of the nation and the rich economy. Honestly, I do not think that Singapore could be replicated any where else in the world nor is there a country similar to it. Read on to learn more!

What makes this environment special or different?:

I'll break this section into two parts.

First, the location. From a brief look on a map, Singapore seems like it is part of the Malaysian penninsula. However, Singapore is its own island that is separated only by minutes of a bridge connecting the two countries. It is located in Southeast Asia near the equator, causing the weather to be warm all year.

Second, the human geography. One of the reasons why Singapore's economy is so strong is because of the significant role that it plays geographically in trade routes. If you wanted to ship anything by sea from Oceania, Southeast Asia, East Asia, or even to Africa from one of the other countries named, you must pass by Singapore. Its signficance in trade is one of the reasons why Malaysia and Singapore broke off from one another - the regions required vastly different policies in order to serve the benefits of the people in its own regions.
