Most people do not carry a water bottle like people do in the United States. Instead, most people drink water at home.
When I visited Llanes, we went to an Asturian restaurant. The best thing I ate there was tortos de maíz con huevos y picadillo (corn bread or tortilla with eggs and ground meat). It is served with fried eggs, potatoes and ground beef or pork. This is a traditional meal in Asturias. It was originally eaten by shepherds in the region for their big meal of the day. The eggs, meat and corn are very nutritious foods, so they give you energy for the entire day.
Since it is the second week of December, all of Spain is decorated for the holiday season. Christmas is the main holiday celebrated in December. After Christmas, in January, Spanish families celebrate the Day of the Three Kings, also called Tres Reyes, on January 6. Because of this, I have heard many Christmas songs in both English and Spanish in markets, schools and in my house.
This week in my classrooms, we learned about a gift giving tradition from the United States called Secret Santa. For Secret Santa, you pick a random name from a bowl and give a gift to the person whose name you choose. The students picked a classmate's name and made them a Christmas ornament with an affirmation and decorations. During the activity, we were able to learn many new adjectives in both English and Spanish to describe each other's personalities and strengths.
