Traveler Bio

Hi! My name is Catie, and I’m a Peace Corps Volunteer living in Cambodia. I grew up in Virginia, in the United States. Growing up, I loved reading, being outside, and learning about places far from home. I have always been curious about how people live in other parts of the world.

I currently reside in a small community in Cambodia, a country located in Southeast Asia. Cambodia is hot most of the year, and daily life looks very different from what I was used to at home. I work as an English teacher at a primary school, where I teach young students how to read, write, and speak English. I also work with Cambodian teachers, supporting them as they teach English in their own classrooms.

My school days are full of energy. Classrooms are lively, and students are eager to participate, even when learning feels challenging. Many lessons are taught without much technology, so teachers rely on creativity, teamwork, and practice. Outside of school, I spend time visiting the local market, riding my bike, and learning Khmer, the language spoken in Cambodia. I’m still learning, and my students often help me practice.

I joined the Peace Corps because I wanted to learn, serve, and experience life outside my comfort zone. Living in Cambodia has taught me that while our routines and surroundings may look different, curiosity, kindness, and a love of learning are things we all share. Through Reach the World, I’m excited to share my experiences and learn alongside students back home.

Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
