My name is Charlie Hoffs, and I can't wait to learn together as we all walk our journeys alongside one another! I am from Los Angeles, California and am 23 years old. In high school, I was deeply passionate about learning languages, travel, and environmentalism. In college at Stanford University, I studied chemical engineering. I wanted to understand tools for fighting climate change, pollution, and environmental injustice through science and technology. I studied strategies for mitigating toxic water contamination and waste runoff, preserving soil health, advancing low-cost access to sanitation, and building renewable energies.
In college and throughout COVID-19, I was involved in activism around US food security and economic justice. My friends and I advocated for improvements to public food assistance and school meal programs. I pursued a Masters of Science degree in community health and prevention research at Stanford, and now I am working for Congressman Ro Khanna in Santa Clara, California. I cannot wait to head out on this Fulbright adventure in Chile in 2024, alongside you all!
I am eager to learn from all of you about what you are most excited about learning these days, and which parts of your community, country, and the world you have explored, and might dream of traveling to in the future!
