The many little differences between Indian life and American life are sometimes overwhelming. For example, in India, the concept of a single file line doesn't seem to exist. If you want to get a snack at a corner store, you have to lean right up against the counter, keep your arm extended with the money and repeatedly ask for what you want. You do this even if there are another six or 20 Indians doing the exact same thing beside you. You can imagine it gets hectic. It gets even more hectic when you go outside, though. Everyone honks. Everyone! ALL the time. Since none of the roads have stop signs and only a few of the roads have sidewalks, drivers honk their horns every time they reach an intersection or pass a pedestrian. The worst part is when you're stuck in traffic and the driver beside you has their hand glued to the horn, as if the reason every other driver ahead of you isn't moving is because they're merely being stubborn or something. And is anybody going to do something about the cows in the middle of the road? I have places to be.
I've always thought of myself as an adaptable kind of person. I can usually see why others do what they do and understand it.
