My placement in Argentina as a Fulbright Scholar is on the campus of the Universidad Nacional del Sur (the National University of the South). During my time here, I am living in a college house community with international students from various parts of Latin America and Europe. I've met students from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, France and Austria! It is so funny to me how I came to Argentina with the expectation of only being introduced to Argentine culture, but instead I have been lucky enough to get the best of many worlds!
I've been on campus for about a week, and I have had some difficulty with the linguistic aspect of integrating into my community. When I first arrived and found out that I would be around so many students, I was a little nervous, because I assumed that I would be the worst speaker. Being around native Spanish-speakers from various parts of Latin America was intimidating to me. Although I majored in Spanish in the U.S., I still feel like I have so much more to learn. Writing and reading in Spanish is a breeze for me. However, I knew that coming here would test my language skills and that I would need to rise to the challenge.
