It is the end of my fall term, which means it is nearing time for me to head back to Oregon! I have been in Siena for about ten weeks now, and it feels like an incredibly short time. It also feels like I have been here forever! I was absolutely terrified to leave Oregon, but I was so excited. Before this, I had never left the country and had only been to four states. The longest airplane ride I had ever taken was six hours, and I had never traveled by myself. Now, I have taken a plane trip of over 23 hours and traveled to four different countries, three of them on my own: Italy, Austria and Germany.
Despite my excitement to go home, see my friends and family and sleep in my own bed, there are so many things I will miss about Italy! I will miss the buses and trains that we talked about so often and how easy it was to walk everywhere. I will miss the breakfasts filled with fresh croissants and hot chocolates. I will miss practicing my Italian with native speakers. Most of all, I will miss the fantastic art and the spaces filled with such a rich history.
Studying in Italy has been an excellent opportunity, especially for an art history student. I have been so lucky to travel and see some of the world's most famous works of art.
