Coming Home...

In this case, wrestling is the national sport here in Senegal, and I study how wrestling and religion influence education and culture. Wrestling here is called làmb (pronounced like “lam-buh”), and it is like nothing you’ve seen before! In many parts of Senegal, both boys and girls can become famous wrestlers and some begin training when they are about your age. In order to conduct research, I have to read a lot of books, practice learning local languages and customs, listen carefully to the people around me, reflect on what I have learned and then write about it. Oh, and watch a lot of wrestling!

I’m excited to hear how things are going in Howell and to talk to you more about Senegal. Next time I’ll teach you how to answer “Na nga def?” Soon, you’ll be ready to visit Senegal!
