Over the course of my first three months in Ourense, I have traveled to many new places, met lots of new people, and taken advantage of the unique opportunity to discover a different culture and lifestyle. Within Spain, I have already traveled to Alcalá de Henares, Lugo, Monforte de Lemos and Vigo. In addition, I have been to Porto, Portugal, and this coming weekend (December 13-15), I am visiting a friend in the Czech Republic!
Of the 250 students at my school, I would say I have almost 200 of their names memorized. Just a few more to go! I love teaching at my school and working with my students, and I look forward to going to school every day. In Ourense, I play in a recreational basketball league every Wednesday with around 15 other people, and every Thursday evening there is a get-together for teaching assistants from around the city to meet up and get to know each other better. Next week, I will also start volunteering with a Catholic community service organization in the city.
Looking ahead, I will be traveling to Madrid, Seville, Gibraltar, Granada and Córdoba with my family over Christmas break. In January, some of my friends and I plan on going skiing in the mountains of Galicia.
