A Day in the Life of a Rwandan Student

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

All 800 students at my school eat lunch together in the cafeteria. We usually have beans, rice, a little meat and isombe (mashed cassava leaves with garlic, salt, tomatoes and onions). Isombe is my favorite. 

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

At school, we speak a mix of Kinyarwanda, French and English. "Hello" in Kinyarwanda is "muraho," and in French, it's "bonjour."

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Keza, Mugisha, Dorin and Joel

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

I study math, computer science, biology, Kiswahili and English, but my favorite is sports period!

What is your homework like?:

We do not have homework--we do all our work at school. 

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

Free reading (I wish I could do more of it), playing tennis, playing with my dog and sleeping!

Who is your favorite famous person?:

Frank Ocean

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

R&B and jazz

What would you like to be when you grow up?:

Aerospace engineer

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?:

Seychelles or Switzerland

What do you know or think about the United States?:

I think of both good and bad things: it's the land of opportunity, but it also seems a little unsafe.
