In order to descend to greater ocean depths, scientists and explorers must use specially designed equipment like remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and manned submersibles that can operate under extreme pressures. These allow for longer observations, sample collecting and other scientific studies of all that the ocean offers.
