To keep elderly people intellectually stimulated and help them make new friends, there is a program here in Madrid that gives elderly people free access to university classes on any topic in which they are interested. If they apply and are accepted, they can use this great opportunity to meet new people and never stop learning. My old host mother told me that she takes part in this program, and the best part is there are no exams! Her husband died a long time ago, and she said it makes her so happy they offer this program to help her meet her social and intellectual needs. I also volunteer with a program called Adopt un Abuelo, where I go to a nursing home and converse with an elderly man once a week to keep him company. This also helps meet this community need.
