Well, Ms. Gustafson’s class. This is it.
I really enjoyed doing this virtual exchange with all of you! Your enthusiasm and thoughtful questions meant a lot to me.
Honestly, when I first heard about this opportunity I kept going back and forth on whether or not I should participate. But I’m so glad that I did. You all played a big role in making me feel like I made the right choice by joining this Reach the World initiative. You've made the experience more than worthwhile—thank you.
Finding My People In Japan
Before coming to Japan I was worried. As a Black man I was afraid that Japanese people might not want to be my friend—that they might find me scary or intimidating.
Sure, I’d had some positive interactions with Japanese people through live broadcasting apps like BIGO Live, HiNative and HelloTalk. Those exchanges gave me some hope that I could make friends in real life. But I was still cautiously optimistic.
