I traveled around Taipei a lot, but the farthest I went outside of Taipei was 3 hours and 30 minutes away from where I live.
I have not traveled very far, but I have traveled around the neighboring cities of Taipei. I have visited Taoyuan, Taichung, Shifen, and Wanggu Waterfall. Each place has been very different from the others. Taichung has fun city spots and delicious food, while Shifen and Wanggu are well known for their waterfalls and hiking trails. Altogether, I have probably traveled around 150 miles (about 400 kilometers) since arriving in Taiwan. I plan to travel more south in the future, but from what I have visited so far, I have learned a lot about Taiwan’s nature, people, and culture!
This week, I traveled by Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), High Speed Rail (HSR), local buses, and local trains. The MRT is great for getting around Taipei quickly, while the HSR makes it easy to visit other cities like Taichung in just a couple of hours! I love sitting by the window during my rides on the HSR to see the nature fly by as I visit a new city.
